Dreadlocks Are Hotter Than Ever! No Longer An Exclusive Look For a Select Few...Believe it or not, dreadlocks are back and hotter than ever! No longer an exclusive look for a select few, the new look and style of dreads is hot, trendy and definitely salon-inspired. The look and style has come a long way from the messy, even unkempt look of days gone by, and it is easier than ever to get a signature look. Because of the updated styles, popularity of dreadlocks is gaining momentum and generating more than a bit of interest. The method of styling dreads will differ, depending on your stylist and the end result or look you want to achieve. There is more than one method you can use to get dreadlocks. Contrary to methods used years ago, such as the organic method which required dirty and already-matted hair to start the process, the new methods start with clean and healthy hair. To begin, hair is separated into equal sections so as it grows, it has shape and more definition. It is recommended to get your dreads professionally styled for the best results, and which will make grooming and maintenance easier. Your stylist can keep the dreads manicured and in great shape, even though the hair is still matted together, by using special techniques and tools. Your stylist may use several common styling techniques when creating dreadlocks, such as twisting the hair, then pinning or ripping, or the back-combing method. Equal sections of hair are separated and then each is coiled, twisted, “palm-rolled” or braided tightly into place. Even super straight hair can be transformed into dreads with a procedure known as “dread perming” to prepare for the style. Another option is the “latch hook” method, or pulling hair out of the newly formed dread and re-weaving the strands back into the dread, encouraging the hair to mat. Because the hair needs to be matted, a proper set will allow it to grow out nicely over time. Growing and Maintaining Dreads Has Never Been Easier...Once this step has been completed and all hair sections are set, next up is to make sure the ends of the hair are tightly twisted off as to form knots or “locks.” Once the dreadlocks are complete, know that it will take time for them to mature, or grow into full dreads. As the dreads grow and mature, the hair which forms the dread becomes tighter and the hair located at the end of each lock will begin to attach itself back into the dread. Plan to re-visit the salon every four to six weeks for grooming and maintenance with salon-quality products specifically formulated for dreads. Due to the popularity of dreadlocks, there are now salon-quality care products designed exclusively to care for dreads. These products were created to keep the dreads clean and in good condition. One of the best parts of a dreads style is the ability to dress them up and get really expressive and creative by adding beads, jewellery or other hair accessories for a look all your own. No matter if your hair lacks texture or is very straight, these days anyone can have this awesome, salon-inspired look. Whether hair is long, short, straight or thin, breathe new life into your style with dreads. Today, there are new looks and variations when styling dreadlocks, so your creativity and imagination can allow a truly one-of-a-kind look. It is best to visit your favourite stylist and talk about the process of styling dreadlocks, the grooming, maintenance, tools and techniques to be used. Your stylist can also make some great recommendations in terms of products to use, how to take care of dreads and preventing damage when setting the style, due to the level of stress on the hair. It is also important that your new dreads, especially the ends or locks, are styled properly. The new look of dreadlocks are salon inspired, but created by you. |
